If you work hard, money isn’t shameful. We just need to understand how to make it work for us.
There are 3 key money questions you should ask yourself right now:
- How much money do you want to make this year?
You should know what you made last year and be able to map out a path to the money you want to make this year. - How much money do you want to give away?
Most people don’t have giving goals… but they will change your life! Have you ever thought about multiplying your income so much that you could live off a smaller percentage of it and give everything else away? Our founder, Brooke, and her husband Brett are close to being able to live off of 40% of their income! - How do these questions make you feel?
Seriously, consider the feelings asking and answering these questions bring up. Talking about money can feel uncomfortable or invasive… but it doesn’t have to continue to feel like that.
These questions reveal the story you’re telling yourself about money.
Your money mindset = how you think about saving, spending, and what you consider to be “comfortable” or “successful.”
Those numbers are different for everyone, but no matter where you start, we can all upgrade our money mindset!
How you think about money is POWERFUL. It will either restrict you OR turn you into a wildly successful, generous person.

5 ways to upgrade your money mindset
Your money mindset impacts ALL the decisions you make about money.
If your goal is to be able to pay your bills, set a little aside, and stash money for your retirement… that’s probably what you will achieve.
There’s nothing wrong with a goal like that, but what if instead…
Your goal is to DOUBLE your income? Why would you want to reach that big goal? What would you be able to do with twice as much money?
Remember, it’s not about the money itself. Money is just a tool. What matters is the WHY behind your money goals.
When you’re ready to upgrade your money mindset, here’s what you do:
- Keep the past in the past. Don’t get hung up on mistakes or bad advice you’ve been given. Maybe you couldn’t make ends meet… that’s your past that now. Give yourself the grace to move on (even if you’re still there).
- Set big goals for yourself. HUGE! Gigantic goals. Write them down. Habakkuk 2:2 says: “Then the LORD said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.” Writing things down matters.
- Make yourself a roadmap. If you don’t have a destination in your GPS, you’ll wander aimlessly. When you have a clearly defined target, all you have to do is take the right turns to reach it.
- Choose to have confidence. Believe your wildest dreams will come true. Get your hopes up!
- Give to those in need. Be generous. Giving money away to others is so freeing, and it will help you go to another level in many areas of your life.
Legacy-minded business leaders aren’t afraid of money
When you upgrade your money mindset, you realize that money is not to be feared. Instead, it’s a tool to be used to increase your impact and leave the legacy you were created to build!
Just think about what you can do with more money….
- Double what you put into savings
- Have unforgettable experiences exploring the world with your family
- Buy a second home
- Change an entire industry, culture, or neighborhood
All of those things are worthwhile and meaningful. And they all take MONEY.
When you become a generous giver and are able to use money to do what you desire in your heart, EVERYTHING shifts.
Proverbs 11:25 says: “The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.”
